When people hear “open source contribution,” they often imagine writing code, fixing bugs, and opening pull requests. But open source projects depend on far more than code: documentation, design, testing, translations, accessibility, issue triage, community support, tutorials, and project organization are all essential contributions.

This talk is an introduction to the many ways people can participate in open source without being software developers. We will explore real-world contribution paths, how to find projects that need these skills, and how to turn everyday skills and interests into meaningful open source contributions.

We will also look at why these contributions are sometimes undervalued, how projects can make non-code contributions easier, and how welcoming contributors with different backgrounds can make open source communities stronger.

Whether you are a designer, writer, tester, translator, student, community organizer, or simply someone who uses open source software and wants to give something back, this talk will show that you don’t need to write code to become an open source contributor.
